DWSOC 2023 Scholarships
The Democratic Women of South Orange County (DWSOC) remains committed to supporting our local Capistrano Unified School District graduating high school seniors and announces its sixth annual Senior High School Student Scholarship Program. Our 2023 Application Essay component reflects our Club’s focus on defending Democracy as it stands up for Public Education at the local, state and national level. With our Scholarship Program we would like to recognize those Senior High School students who are committed to democratic ideals and have demonstrated strong community involvement.
Our application consists of three Education/Interest questions and an Essay chosen from one of three prompts that supports the focus of DWSOC in Defending Democracy starting in our own community. Additionally for 2023, we are requiring students provide us proof of their Voter Pre-registration or Registration as a Democrat. The Recommendation Survey this year is in a Google Forms document. Each applicant chooses a Recommender and provides that individual with our Recommendation Survey Information document. That document includes the link to our Recommendation Survey Form for the recommender to submit directly to DWSOC.
DWSOC will be awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships to qualifying senior students from San Clemente High School, Dana Hills High School and San Juan Hills High School in 2023. The Senior Awards Night Event for each school is scheduled for either Wednesday, May 17 or Thursday, May 18, 2023. Applications are now being accepted online through April 10, 2023 for this DWSOC 2023 Scholarship. The due date for the Recommendation Survey is also at 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2023.
The Democratic Women of South Orange County works to elect local Democrats to office and is committed to social and economic equality, environmental protection, affordable healthcare, a high-quality public education and the promotion of a diverse culture. DWSOC is the largest Democratic Club in Orange County with over 500 members and was the inaugural recipient of the Truman Award for “Outstanding Club of the Year” from the Democratic Party of Orange County in 2020.

2023 Scholarship Application Information
Due by April 10, 2023
Eligibility Requirements
- Graduating high school senior for the current 2022-2023 academic year from one of the following schools:
- Dana Hills High School, San Clemente High School, and San Juan Hills High School
- Demonstrated community involvement consistent with promoting democracy and Democratic ideals
- Registered or Pre-Registered as a Democrat.
- Applicants must provide verification of Voter Registration or Pre-Registration to accompany this Application Submission. This documentation could be a screenshot of your online registration or a copy of a Voter Registration confirmation you received. If you have not yet registered to vote, here is the link to the “Online Voter Registration Form” of the California Secretary of State: https://registertovote.ca.gov/
- Completed Application Form with three (3) questions and an Essay (choice of one (1) of three Essay questions)
- Completed Recommendation Survey (only 1 recommendation please) from a teacher, counselor, academic advisor, coach, or work supervisor/manager of the student
- The Recommendation Survey must be received by 11:59pm on Monday, April 10, 2023. Please reach out to your recommender as soon as possible.

Award
- DWSOC will award a minimum of three (3) scholarships up to $1,000. Graduating seniors from any of the following high schools are eligible: Dana Hills High School, San Clemente High School, and San Juan Hills High School. Award Recipient Winners will be announced by each school at its Senior Awards Event.
- DWSOC reserves the right to award multiple scholarships to seniors at the same school if it so chooses. Scholarship awards will be based on how well the senior student demonstrates leadership, community involvement, and concern for Democratic issues as well as other information submitted in the application.
Terms and Timing
- Students must submit the Application Form & Essay no later than 11:59pm on Monday, April 10, 2023 to scholarships@dwsoc.org. The Recommendation Survey must also be received by the same deadline.
- Decisions on awardees/amounts will be made by the DWSOC Scholarship Committee & Executive Board and notification made to each High School for the Senior Awards Night Announcement..
- Recipients will be recognized by DWSOC on its website, through Social Media/local media Press Releases, and at our June 5, 2023 General Meeting.
