Involvement is crucial to our clubs’ operations and making our vision for a better Orange County - and America - a reality. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and get to know your fellow Democrats. Yes, it’s some extra work, but it’s rewarding...(and did we mention fun?)
Field Team Support
Our field team is responsible for organizing neighborhood canvassing events as well as postcarding & phonebanking events! They are the bold ones, or maybe they just like a little exercise with fellow Dems on a Saturday morning! Canvassing is crucial to communicating directly with voters on the issues, building down-ballot candidate awareness, and making sure they vote! We make it easy by providing you with expert training and pairing you with and experienced canvasser. As the election nears, we will all need to step up so better to grab your spot early, practice your elevator speech and break in your walking shoes now!
Community Events
We participate in community events which provide a DWSOC presence at events such as festivals, car shows, and other events open to the public. They are on the front lines helping with important activities like voter registration and club participation. They make sure the community knows there is a vibrant Democratic Party in South Orange County and encourages the community to get involved and get out the vote! This year we are walking in the annual Swallows Day Parade!
Fundraising
The Fundraising group puts the “fun” into FUNdraising by coordinating events such as donation campaigns - like Win the Midterm Showdown: Fund the Fight- and manages the sustaining membership drive. They come up with novel ways to solicit donations from individuals and organizations to support club efforts on behalf of local Democratic candidates!
Scholarships
The Scholarships Committee started in 2018 with the mission of building a Democratic Party presence with our young democrats in the local public high schools. They manage all aspects of the program including fundraising specifically for the high school scholarships program, develop, promote and score applications and build awareness of the program in the community. Awards range from $500 - $1,000 per student!
Voter Registration
Our voter registration activities work in conjunction with our community events and our field team to get out the vote! They are everywhere from fiestas, festivals, farmers’ markets and more. The Voter Registration volunteers receive training on how to register voters, and coordinates volunteer efforts to attend community events, sign up voters and tell everyone they see, “Don’t forget to vote.”
Resistance Team
Our Resistance Team exists to engage, inspire, and unite people beyond our DWSOC membership to defend the foundations of our democracy. At a time when chaos, cruelty, and corruption threaten the very fabric that holds our nation together, we believe it is a moral imperative to act. We educate and encourage citizens to pay attention, stand up to authoritarian policies, and take meaningful action—organizing protests, overpass banner drops, banner plane flyovers, and voter engagement efforts that amplify our collective voice. Young Dems
We work in conjunction with Orange County and California Young Dems to focus on making sure young Democrats have a voice in the Democratic process and they help encourage our newest Democratic members to join us at club events. We offer Young Dems opportunities to volunteer at events, to being the headliner at our events! They are a powerful force, bring a unique voice and demonstrate the action we all need to take to protect our democracy and our community!
Hispanic Outreach
Our mission is to build strong, trusting relationships within the Hispanic community, offering support and encouragement to immigrant families. Our team listens to community voices, builds trusting relationships, shares information and resources and supports families in need. We would love for you to be part of this community effort. The Democracy Circle (DC) program was born to build a community of Democrats hiding in plain sight in your own neighborhood. The DC program is set up to be fun and friendly. It’s designed to strengthen connections amongst like-minded people and to promote Democratic values and candidates. Consider becoming a neighborhood DC Liaison!
